Mrs. Geneva Moore
Mrs. Moore:
"For a period of ten years from 1994 - 2004. I was the primary care provider for my father Mr. William Hicks. Mr. Hicks had multiple health problems including being incontinent, a diabetic and he had a tracheotomy in his throat. Mr. Hicks also had a peg tube in his stomach for feeding purposes."
Interviewer:
After a lengthy stay in the hospital Mr. Hicks developed bleeding ulcers where Mrs. Moore had to provide home care for her father. During this time Mr. Hicks health was continually deteriorating. Mrs. Moore received help from her husband, son's, two (2) hired home care providers, in addition to doctors, nurses, occupational therapist, physical therapist, speech therapist and other health care professionals.
Mrs. Moore:
" I saw a vision and a purpose to care for consumers in a home based setting after my fathers passing in 2004. I decided to open up an Adult Foster Care Home which is called Faith Family and Determination AFC Home. As my father (Mr. Hicks) illness worsened. I was told by medical professionals that I was taking on a bit to much.
Through it all I had the Faith , I had the Family , and I was definitely Determined to persevere to the end. Mr. Hicks passed away at home on 2/03/04 and I was grateful, because he wanted to be home around family."
